Australia's London Legacy's Annual Reception, 16th June 2022

A Report by Margaret Carter

Hester Huttenbach and Margaret Carter were honoured to represent the Gallipoli Association at Australia's London Legacy's Annual Reception. This a charity which provides services to families who reside in Europe and United Kingdom who are suffering after the injury or death of a spouse or parent during or after their Australian/New Zealand Defence Force service.

The Reception was held in Australia House, a remarkable Grade 2 listed building in the Belle Epoch style, which is the oldest continually occupied diplomatic building in London. Lynette Wood, the Acting High Commissioner, gave a speech of welcome to the guests and gave praise to the sterling work carried out by the charity . This was followed by the President of London Legacy ,Yvonne Smith, outlining the role the charity plays in supporting families of service personnel. A moving case study was presented to the audience showing support over a number of years to a particular family as an example of the scope of the emotional and financial help the charity offers.
