The judging of the Association's Gallipoli Essay Competition has been completed. We are pleased to announce the winners.

First Prize: Steve Warburton with 'Restoring the Broken' (£200, a book kindly supplied by Helion & Company, and a year's digital subscription to the GA)

Second Prize: Edward Green with 'Beetle Goes to War' (£100, a book kindly supplied by Helion & Company, and a year's digital subscription to the GA)

A huge thank you to all the entries, and to Helion & Company, a leading independent military history publisher, in sponsoring the competition.

By the competition's deadline we received 13 entries. The standard of all these entries was exceptionally high, which made the judging particularly difficult, a real reflection of the scholarship and knowledge we have amongst our membership as well as those of the public. The judges thoroughly enjoyed reading all the essays. As a consolation to those who were pipped at the post, there have been recommendations to the Gallipolian editor to publish some of these, so keep a lookout in future journals.

With education at the heart of the GA's mission, our continued aim is to raise public awareness of the Gallipoli Campaign by encouraging and facilitating study through initiatives such as this competition. In doing so, we help preserve the memory of the campaign and ensure that all who served, and those who made the ultimate sacrifice, are never forgotten.
