Remembering the 29th Division in 2022

On Sunday 27th Of February there was a commemorative service to remember the 29th Division, in All Saints Parish Church in Leamington Spa.

This venue was chosen, as holding events at the monument near Stretton upon Dunsmore has become increasingly difficult. The headquarters of the 29th Division was in Leamington during the three months before they departed for Gallipoli.

The service was officiated by Father Christopher and we were fortunate to be joined by both the Lord Lieutenant of Warwickshire, Mr. Tim Cox and the Mayor of Leamington, Councillor Carol Rasmussen and her consort. Both laid wreaths at the church war memorial. It was particularly poignant to have the Mayor present as her grandfather emigrated from Denmark to Australia early in the 20th When war broke out he volunteered for the AIF and served in Gallipoli.

We were also joined by members of the local branch of the Royal British Legion and the Fusiliers Association, who also laid wreaths.

We hope to hold this event at All Saints annually. Watch out for details.

Our thanks go to Father Christopher and the members of the church community who made us so welcome.
