Gallipoli Memorial Gates Ceremony

On the 14 March 2016 (Commonwealth Day) Brigadier James Stopford represented the Gallipoli Association at the Memorial Gates ceremony.
This is a very impressive memorial commemorating the service and lives of those from the Commonwealth who have served the crown in all campaigns.  Most countries were represented by their Ambassadors/High Commissioners and, as this year was especially dedicated to the Gallipoli campaign, the Turkish Ambassador was also present.

Mr Inderjeet Singh Nijhar (Chairman of the Memorial Gates Council) spoke passionately about the service of the Indians and Nepalese on the Gallipoli Peninsula.

At the reception afterwards (a tent in Green Park serving delicious Indian snacks) James was able to network and meet two Gallipoli descendants, both having grandfathers who had served in Gallipoli. Hopefully both new members of the Gallipoli Association.

We are looking forward to 2017 and the ongoing support of this important Commonwealth service.
