Congratulations to the staff and students of Upper Wharfedale School, North Yorkshire, for putting on a superb Gallipoli-themed Remembrance commemoration on Friday, 10 November 2023.

The whole school listened to a forty five minute presentation on the campaign, put together by the fantastic student leadership team. It included details of the campaign, biographies of locals who served, video clips, letters and poetry, all of which the students had researched themselves.

They invited me to contribute and I did a presentation on what it means to honour Gallipolians in 2023.

The behaviour and attitude of the three hundred and fifty students in the audience was superb. Who dares say that young people today are not interested in remembrance?

Earlier in the year, Upper Wharfedale School students participated in a project to produce a Gallipoli themed mosaic. This now hangs proudly in the school foyer.
