Remembrance Sunday at the Cenotaph, November 2011

On 13 November 2011 the Gallipoli Association paraded past the Cenotaph in Whitehall. This was an important occasion for the Association as it was the first time we have marched, as a body, since the time of the Gallipoli veterans.

Cenotaph2011 5Seventeen Association members, including John Crowe, Mal Murray, Carole Sach,  Vicki Genrich, Simon Kleinig and Bruce Simpson (WFA Chairman), took part, all having relations who had served in the campaign. John Crowe, the membership secretary, whose father and uncle served with the Norfolk’s, laid the wreath on behalf of the Association at the Cenotaph.

The Daily Mail journalist, Robert Hardman, http://hardmanblog.dailymail.co.uk/2011/11/a-pride-that-grows-ever-greater.html, also gave us a brief mention in an article titled 'A Pride That Grows Ever Greater' and wrote; “this event is now as much about commemoration as past participation. It is 96 years since Allied troops were massacred on the beaches of Gallipoli and yet this year saw the first appearance of the Gallipoli Association – made up of descendants of those who fought there.”

A report by Mal Murray will feature in a future Gallipolian journal.
