Maryborough, Chapman and James VC

Thanks to Vicki Genrich, our Treasurer, who was in Maryborough (4 hours drive north of Brisbane) last week and in the town park photographed the statue to Lieutenant (later Major) Duncan Chapman, the first ashore at Anzac on 25 April 1915, later killed at Pozieres on the Somme.

Of several other Gallipoli connections in Maryborough is that of Lieutenant Herbert James, Worcestershire Regiment, who was awarded the VC for gallantry at Gully Ravine. The only Gallipoli VC in Australia outside the Australian War Memorial is that of James, which is displayed in the local museum.
