Anzac Day - St Pauls

A selection of images from the Gallipoli Anzac Day Service that was held in the crypt of St Paul's Cathedral at 9.30am on 25th April 2017.

This was another well attended event with wreaths laid by our President of the Gallipoli Association, Christopher Fagan, and also representatives from HM Government and the armed services, by High Commissioners for Australia and New Zealand, the French Defence Attaché and by the Turkish and Irish ambassadors.

The Exhortation was delivered by Mr James Watson Smith whose great-uncle, Colonel E. P. Smith was killed at Gallipoli on 1 May 1915. The words of Kemal Ataturk were then recited by the Turkish ambassador H.E. Mr Abdurrahman Bilgic. The Last Post and Reveille were sounded by Drummer Durie, Nijmegen Company Grenadier Guards and the Lamant played by L/Cpl R. Spence, Irish Guards. After a short Silence, the lesson was read by our Chairman Brigadier James Stopford CBE.
