Journals
The Gallipoli Association publishes a tri-annual journal. It is available to members and has received consistent praise for the quality of its content. Its contributors are from all backgrounds; relatives of veterans, popular writers on the Great War and Gallipoli, military and political figures and members with particular specialist interests and personal research goals.
Editions of The Gallipolian, from numbers 1 (Winter
1969 ) to 120 (Autumn 2009) are available to members FREE on this
webpage, or via purchase of a CD which removes the need to
download each edition separately and also includes a fully
hyperlinked index and a comprehensive search facility. The CD
is available to members to purchase at the Quartermasters Store.
Editions after 120 will be added approximately 1 year after
publication, so watch out for the 2010 editions soon. Any queries
please email webmaster@gallipoli-association.org
To view the journals you will need a PDF document reader, for
example Adobe Reader, installed. This can be downloaded for free
from http://www.adobe.com or by clicking the download button
here.
The journal sizes vary between 5MB and 20MB according to page
length and size of colour images. The majority of the files are in
the range 3 -8 MB. Download speeds will vary, but an average
broadband connection will typically acquire a 10MB file in about 3
minutes.
Alphabetical Index to
Articles appearing in Volumes 1 -120
Other Specific
Indexes
Note for guidance on using the Index
1. The index is a slightly revised and expanded version of one
compiled in 2007 by Gallipoli Association member, Robert Pike, to
whom the Editor and his predecessor are indebted. The index does
not purport to be a comprehensive guide to everything that has
appeared in The Gallipolian over the past 40 years. It is
essentially an alphabetical listing, by subject area, of articles
dealing with a range of 'Gallipoli related' topics.
2. Items within each subject area (e.g. Merchant Navy, Suvla etc.)
are listed under the issue number in which they appeared. Thus, an
article that featured, say, in issue No. 69 will be listed before
one on the same, or similar subject that appeared in issue No. 86.
The only exceptions are in the case of Book Reviews, Obituaries and
Poetry (see paragraph 4 below).
3. Where articles encompass different subject areas, every effort
has been made to record the article in each (e.g. a memoir written
by a veteran of the campaign, will be listed both under 'Memories/
Reflections'; the unit in which he served; and often under the
veteran's name).
4. Book Reviews (listed alphabetically by author), Obituaries
(alphabetically by name of the deceased and sub divided between
veterans and others) and Poetry (alphabetically by title) are
contained in separate sections at the end of the main index.
5. Only a minority of Association events and annual commemorations
are listed (usually only the first time an event was held, or when
an unusual, or particularly significant commemoration occurred).
Similarly, items of regular Association business (such as the
Chairman's or Treasurer's Report) are not listed since reports on
these matters, and on annual events and commemorations, can
normally be found by referring to the issue following when they
occurred.
Technical Use Notes
The journal numbers listed as underlined blue hyperlinks below
connect directly to the respective PDF file, enabling you to
located articles from their primary subject/title or from the
author's name.
For example, under 'E', below, is to be found the following
entry:
Egypt
Gallipoli Campaign Hospitals (Patrick Gariepy) :
110
This indicates that the article concerning Gallipoli campaign
hospitals in Egypt by Patrick Gariepy can be found in edition 110.
Click '110' to open the PDF file for edition 110, and then find the
article your require within this.
If you know the author or contributor's surname, in this case
'Gariepy', you can also find an entry in this index by using the
'FIND' facility under 'Edit' on the toolbar on your browser.
Use the alphabetical links below to move quickly through the
index, or for browsing. Following the alphabetical listing there is
a set of indexes relating to sundry other categories.
Do note, as indicated in the technical help pages, that the .PDF
files themselves are searchable by keyword or phrase.
